We’re only at half of our peak folding rate, but we’re still climbing in the team ranking. We’ll hit 1.2 billion points today.

I’m somehow hanging top 10 with my lowly 1080! WU’s have been sort of sportatic over the last few days and some Valorant has slowed me down.

Same,  I think there was a 8 hour stretch yesterday where I didn’t get any WUs which puts a big dent in my daily numbers.

Two scout 80 4 bangers or one scout 800 v8. I miss the good old days when a company would just say we need a 4 banger and some guy would be like hold my beer while I cut this v8 in half.

Seriously? I saw a large trailer-mounted compressor once, or perhaps it was a pump, that had a Ford V8 that only used one bank of its cylinders.

Fun trick with a ford flathead v8 is that you can just take the head off one side and it still runs fine. I remember my grandpa blowing my mind as a kid watching the valves and pistons do their thing. Obviously I wouldn't drive like that just a party trick.

I was offline for a few days whilst I did some upgrades but then forgot to start folding again - oops. That machine is back up to full speed, but in that delay I managed to drop three spots in our rankings. Oh well...

I picked up a few bits and pieces in the last week and will probably add another machine to the fight. I did upgrade my main desktop a few weeks back, and that basically leaves the guts of my old machine around to be turned into yet another computer that I don’t need. In addition to another 32GB for the workstation, I picked up some cheap GPUs (GTX 660 and 770) that can probably help the cause. There’s also another computer that is essentially complete, minus a hard drive, that was bought for parts. I’ll have to see what kind of numbers these various machines can generate before deciding if it’s worth the electricity. I have some low-power CPUs that might be a good choice for now.

There is someone locally that’s selling the board, CPU and RAM from a cryptomining rig at a fairly reasonable price.  I saw that board, with its 16 PCIE slots, and started to get some crazy ideas, but figured that I have enough junk around here.

This morning, I ordered a 1080 Ti GPU just for folding and to be my general purpose video card. I do not game at all, except for playing Sudoku on my phone. I’ll need to find a bare bones beater box to host the crusty 1060 that’s in my machine now. With both cards folding, I should be able to fold 1.5 to 1.8 million PPD. Also, my son-in-law has a 5700 some’m some’m GPU and I about have him recruited to fold for us. Our CPU count is way down, but I’m assuming that’s just weaker CPUs that joined at Easter and then dropped off when their computers started to melt.

Nice! I even have a 345 International Engine in my Scout II!
